Swope Bread - Breads, Doughs
Swope Bread

"This is a wonderful sweet and hearty bread. It goes great with a bowl of soup on a winters day, or plain with a little butter. It is the easiest bread recipe you will ever make and I can't eat enough of it."  Original recipe yield: 2 - 9x5 inch loaves.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 4 teaspoons baking soda
  • 4 cups buttermilk

    DIRECTIONS:
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease two 9x5 inch loaf pans.
  • In a large bowl, stir together bread flour, whole wheat flour, sugar and salt. In a separate bowl, dissolve baking soda in buttermilk. Stir buttermilk into flour mixture. Beat well. Pour batter into prepared pans.
  • Bake in preheated oven for one hour.
